“My diploma project, Plein Soleil, highlights a community of women who love being under the sun; they stay along the coast in seaside towns marked by bright, colorful Latin architecture. I was inspired by the retired women who are moving to the south of France to enjoy some comfort and to live a pleasant life, so I photographed my mum and her friends, grandmothers of friends, and all the women around me, who introduced me to their sunbathing rituals. These women are distant, pensive and seemingly absorbed by the sun. I wanted to photograph them as I do with architecture, to memorialize them as monuments.”
